Reminiscence
‘Remember’ – she murmurs. Her sigh escapes like dust in the air around me.
She was an oak, but is now a woman; the tree bark of my dreams.
It’s a plea: ‘Remember’. Have I gathered her already in the cradle of my palms?
In the secular forest, have I given her a thought, ever so fleeting?
She is a rustle, a caress, a promise that takes flight.
If my heart weds her lips, will I dissolve within her? Will I become cortex? The coarseness of the shell?
It’s a refrain—‘remember’ – that won’t leave me.
In the forest, I lost myself.
